Fallen logs might not be the most glamorous natural environments, but they are surprisingly integral to the health of wetlands. That is something this nature-lover shows in this trail camera footage.
The producer of this video set up his camera at the head of a series of beaver dams on a long brook in Nova Scotia. His goal was to show the wildlife that lives and uses the upper part of the marshes.
“You’ll see lots of video and pictures of these expansive marshes or these larger beaver ponds,” he said. “But the upper ends are just as – maybe more – important. At least they’re [an important] part of that ecosystem.”
This video footage covers an entire year, showing off the creatures that form this interwoven ecosystem. The first animals to appear in this montage are the beavers who created the beaver pond.
But this ecosystem includes more than the beavers and ducks you would expect to be in a pond like this. Beavers also created an environment for hawks, cranes and raccoons.
The man’s intuition led him to the perfect placement. The trail camera captured more than small animals. One clip even included a curious wolf pup wandering through the stream during the winter.
When the snow was at its thickest, the camera also witnessed a cautious deer striding past. Suffice it to say, this nature-lover succeeded in his mission. Take a moment of calm and watch this serene wildlife video.
