A Chihuahua puppy named Bobby is taken in by a tabby cat and her kittens after his mother's tragic death. The unexpected bond forms quickly, showing the potential for cross-species acceptance.
Bobby, the Chihuahua, was just two days old when his mom was struck and killed by a car. Faith O'Georgia, a staffer at the Michigan Humane Society, explained that the puppy needed a mother's care.
Coincidentally, one of their recent rescues, a mother cat, had just delivered a litter of kittens, and it seemed like a perfect surrogate match. So they placed little Bobby among his presumptive feline mother and... magic! The bond was instantaneous. Both the mother and the kittens treat Bobby just like one of their own.
As you'll see in the video we've posted below, Gwen the lovely tabby cat, really did let Bobby join her litter of adorable little kittens. The baby chihuahua, incidentally, is about the same size as his feline siblings and they're getting along just fine.
Ryan McTigue from the Humane Society gave a good summary: "You think about mother nature and how cats and dogs aren't supposed to like each other but as we all know at the Michigan Humane Society, that isn't always the case, and this is an extreme example of that.
They're spending some time in a foster home right now getting all the socialization, all the love that they need, and all the medical attention they require. And as soon as they're ready, they'll go up for adoption here at the Michigan Humane Society where they'll all find loving forever homes."
Most people love incredibly endearing stories like this one. It may be that deep down; people want to get along with others despite differences in culture, religion, and so forth. We often fail at this, but seeing cats and dogs getting along in such a sweet way might offer us a glimmer of hope.
