A soldier and his loyal black Labrador Retriever, Sgt Canvas, who served multiple tours in Iraq, were honored by their small town of Minden after the dog had to be put down. The community came together to support both the Marine and his service animal.
Sgt Canvas, who served multiple tours in Iraq, was trained to sniff out up to 70 different bombs. She tried to save her master. “As I was walking towards those stairs I saw her run out of the corner of my eye and give me a signal that there was a bomb there but… I already had my foot on it.” But her family to make a hard choice recently. As a result, the small town of Minden came together Friday to support the Marine who earned a Purple Heart in Afghanistan and his beloved K-9 partner. Thank you for your service, Sgt. Canvas and Cpl.
