Anna Mae Bullock met her future husband, Ike, at a club where Ike's band, then known as King of Rhythm, played. Soon, the 17-year-old joined the band and changed her name at the band's suggestion to Tina Turner. After she got married to Ike, the band's name changed to "The Ike and Tina Turner Revue."
On the Ed Sullivan Show, Tina struts on stage in a short, gold dress, while the other 3 group members wear matching pink dresses. They sing and dance with her 3 other team members in sync.
Ike stands behind the singer wearing a lavender suit, and jams on the guitar. In contrast, other musicians wear blue suits & play different musical instruments. The song "Proud Mary" is a track taken from the rock band Creedence Clearwater Revival, written by John Fogerty.
However, the original song never sounded so funky until Ike & Tina Turner's performance. The song starts with slow singing and easy dance steps. But as the music picks the music tempo, the dancing and the singing rhythm peaks up.
"Proud Mary" turned out to be the biggest hit, reaching number 4 in the music list, and also won them a Grammy. The group impresses everyone present at the show. It takes work to dance with so much energy. That, too, live on stage in front of such a vast audience.
