The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office posted a tear-jerker of a video to Facebook today which is quickly going viral.
It was an emotional moment when Deputy Jeff Dishmon saw color for the first time on November 14, 2018, a date which will live in his memory forever. To put it in his own words, "It's a different world..."
His younger partner, Deputy Freese, organized a donation drive. She recruited her fellow officers and friends. They all pitched in to purchase a unique pair of glasses that would allow Deputy Jeff Dishmon too experience the world of color.
Deputy Dishmon and his younger partner, Deputy Freese have worked together for eight years at the Humboldt County Correctional Facility. Over the years the two have grown close, nicknaming each other “Grandpa” and “Granddaughter.”
Thanks to this incredible miracle of science, these glasses allow color blind individuals with "strong protan color blindness" to see color. The company behind this innovation is called EnChroma.
Deputy Dishmon has been color blind his whole life, which has sometimes been a source of frustration for the deputy, but he never knew how much he was missing until today.
The results were incredible. When he received the glasses, he cautiously took them out of the box and put them on very slow. His reaction is instaneous. We can only imagine the new beauty he was seeing for the first time as he looked out upon those verdant green pastures and the baby blue sky.
